Building and Detailing the Tamiya 1/350 scale USS Missouri

This manual provides a step by step guide for building, improving, detailing, masking and painting of the USS Missouri as she appeared in September of 1945. The manual shows you how to fix the fit and void issues associated with the model including the 3 piece decking and how to detail the superstructure with portholes, photoetch hatches and scratchbuilt vents.  The manual shows you how to remove the molded on anchor chain and add real chain and how to add the mine sweep chain and scratchbuild the associated parts. Both Gold Medal Models Missouri photoetch detail sets were used along with the Eduard Missouri photoetch detail set. The manual shows you how to incorporate these photoetch parts into the models construction sequences, how to assemble the radars and how to assembly, detail and reinforce the catapults and the aircraft crane to make them stronger assemblies.

Black Cat Models and Blue Ridge Models 3-D printed accessories were used and they simplified construction and painting sequences. The manual shows you how to hollow out the ends of the 16 inch gun barrels and how to prepare and assembly the Black Cat Models 3-D printed 40mm quad Bofors and their 5”/38 twin mounts. Other numerous 3-D printed accessories  such as rope reels, 20mm Oerlikons, searchlights, Mk-51 directors and Mk-37 Radars were also used throughout the build. The manual provides a step by step painting and masking guide for the USS Missouri’s Measure 22 camouflage pattern using Testors enamel paints. The manual also provides a listing of the tools, supplies, paints and references that you will need to create a detailed replica of this famous battleship.

This manual is the definitive publication for the Tamiya 1/350 scale USS Missouri and if you follow Mike’s techniques, construction sequence and methodology for building, detailing, masking and painting you can achieve a museum quality representation of the USS Missouri as she appeared in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945.
